Taj Mahal

The only thought of Agra evokes images of pearly white Taj Mahal. This mausoleum was built by Shah Jahan between 1631 and 1648, in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Today it stands as an emblem of true love and makes many jaws drop with its grand charisma. It took 21 years to complete this masterpiece with over 20,000 laborers deployed day and night. An early morning sight of Taj is worth capturing in your camera lens.

Agra Fort

Covering an area of 94 acres, Agra Fort is a grand red sandstone structure standing close to the Yamuna River. It is just 2 kilometers from the Taj Mahal. It was the ruling point of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty. In 1983 it acquired the title of UNESCO World Heritage site. The fort has seventy feet high walls and has four gates including two main entry gates - "Delhi Gate" and the "Lahore Gate." Some of the fascinating historic sites inside the Agra Fort are Jahangir's Hauz, Shahjahani Mahal, Ghaznin Gate, Jahangir's Chain of Justice, The Muthamman Burj, and Shish Mahal.

Jama Masjid

Standing just opposite to the Agra Fort, Jama Masjid is the biggest mosque of Agra. Shah Jahan commissioned this mosque in 1648. It features red sandstone domes and incredible architecture. The main prayer hall is designed using sandstone with floral motifs. Walk around to explore its airy courtyards and fountains. Marble walls of the Masjid have Persian inscriptions which take you back into the bygone era.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is a known historical wonder close to Agra city. It was built in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The complex of Fatehpur Sikri is home to many religious as well as secular buildings like Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chishti, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas, Ibadat Khana, etc. This is a great historical sight to go deeper into the past of this region.

Food of Agra

The city of Agra is a great treat for foodies looking for delectable North Indian food. Petha is surely a must buy sweet item here sold in most of the shops. How to Reach Agra

By Air:

Kheria airport of Agra is also a military base. This airport is a seasonal commercial airport and is linked only by Air India flights from New Delhi.

By Rail:

Agra is situated on the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Chennai route and receives direct trains from cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior and Jhansi.

By Road:

Agra is connected to Delhi by NH2 and the new Yamuna Expressway. Jaipur is connected to Agra by NH11 whereas Lucknow and Kanpur are connected with the city by NH2.
